Common Questions

What's the difference between a Fractional CTO and a regular consultant?

A consultant typically delivers a report or recommendations and leaves. As your Fractional CTO, I become part of your team — attending meetings, making decisions, managing vendors, and being accountable for technical outcomes. It's leadership, not just advice.

Do you write code?

When needed, yes. But my primary value is architecture, strategy, and oversight. I can review code, guide your developers, evaluate agency work, and jump in for critical implementations. For large-scale development work, I'll help you build or manage the right team.

What platforms do you work with?

I specialize in WooCommerce and Shopify, along with the ecosystem of tools around them: subscription platforms, payment systems (Stripe, NMI, Braintree), fulfillment (ShipStation, Finale), email (Klaviyo), and analytics/data tools.

How long does a typical engagement last?

Audits are typically completed in 2-3 weeks. Fractional CTO retainers usually run 6-12 months minimum, though some clients continue for years. Project oversight varies based on scope — from a few weeks to several months.

How do I know if I need a Fractional CTO?
